SNUGGLES PROJET

Do you love to crochet? Knit? Quilt? Sew?
If so, we would like to tell you about our Snuggle Project. The Snuggle Project was started because of a heartfelt need to do something for the innocent victims who find themselves in animal shelters without a bit of comfort to call their own. If picturing them in their hard cold cells makes your heart ache to do something to help here’s an opportunity. The idea is to provide a security blanket for shelter animals. The security blankets are called “Snuggles”. Each animal will get a Snuggle to cuddle up with to feel warmth and comfort. Most shelter animals are kept in areas with stainless steel braces and hard plastic flooring or even concrete floors. The Snuggles allow them to have a little reprieve from the coldness of the pen they are kept in. Snuggles not only give physical comfort but psychological comfort as well. And not only for the animals – you too will know great satisfaction through working to contribute to the warmth and comfort of these innocent creatures.
How You Can Help
We are asking you to donate a little of your time and your leftover scraps of yarn or fabric to make snuggles for the Middelburg SPCA. Crochet, knit, quilt or sew cloth blankets in the following guideline sizes:
14” x 14” (35cm x 35cm) for cats and small animals
24” x 24” (60cm x 60cm) for cats and small to medium dogs
36” x 36” (90cm x 90cm) for medium to large dogs
These sizes are just guidelines. Snuggles don’t have to be exact. They could be made out of acrylic yarn or cotton in any pattern or colour. The ends should be double-knotted and fastened off long and woven through the work to prevent unravelling from washing and wear. They are best when made thick for comfort and warmth. The Snuggles don’t have to be perfect. The animals love them any way they can get them. All that is required is that they be made with love.
Each week we will publish patterns that you may want to use to make a Snuggle. But if you would like to browse the pattern library you can follow the link to the Snuggle Project that you can find at www.snugglesproject.org or you can just design your own Snuggle!
